No, Emily in Paris did not make my list of things to watch this winter but that doesn’t mean I’m not a fan. I’m just about to wrap up Season 3 and it has me feeling all things Paree. While watching, I often find myself reflecting on how I live compared to Emily and her friends. Well, frankly, there is no comparison to her glamorous, sort of single life in Paris but there are things we can all learn from the show.

Visit Paris. Obviously.
Ok, this one is a bit of a stretch for most of us but it is THE place in the world I want to visit. The cafes, the romance, Ernest Hemmingway (I’ve not read one thing he wrote but you know, Ernest Henningway!), the Seine, the wandering roads and beautiful architecture, the history, the baked goods. I want to be immersed in all of it. And Emily in Paris highlights the city and the lifestyle of the French so well. (I think there are a few French people who would disagree with this possibly ignorant assessment?). I’m not going to Paris anytime soon so this show is the perfect replacement for now.

Accessorize Your Bathing Suit
In Season 3, Episode 5, Emily and Mindy visit a posh hotel pool and they (especially Mindy) look fabulous. They’re not in their bathsuits and Joe Fresh flip flops. They’re accessorized and I love it. Even just to wear some jewellery and have a nice pool bag would be a good first step. I won’t be wearing heels to the pool anytime soon.

Drink Kir Royale!
It’s the perfect image. Emily and her colleagues are lounging outdoors at lunch and the perfect looking drinks arrive at their table. The Daily Beast says, “Thanks to ‘Emily in Paris,’ the Kir Royale Will Be 2023’s Hottest Drink”. And I believe it. I have know idea what it tastes like (yet) but it’s so pretty I am definitely going to bravely order it somewhere. Or, have Eric make me one. The cocktail is made with Creme de Cassis (black currant liqueur) and Champagne. That’s it.

Meet Friends for Lunch (but don’t order french fries every time)
I love going out to eat and Emily and her people are always dining out and it’s just a part of their regular, everyday lives. Meeting friends for lunch or brunch is just so fancy and extra. I’m just not sure what they’re eating so as to not put on 10-20 extra pounds. A friend of mine and I have started trying to have Brunch together as a somewhat regular calendar date and it’s one of my favourite things I look forward to. The brunch at Cafe Bouffon is the perfect setting for a lunching with friends kind of vibe.

Be More Productive in the Right Ways
I might only be saying this because I am on holiday and have been binge watching a serious amount of television. Emily likes to keep busy and in doing so she keeps her creativity flowing. I am very productive in my day to day life but my time isn’t always spent doing things that make me feel more like me. Like writing. I think I need to spend more of my downtime being creative and not being so lazy in front of the tv.

Be Yourself
Emily seems to annoy almost everyone. But, it doesn’t really phase her and she certainly  doesn’t try to change to fit in more or get in less trouble. It’s part of her charm. I think we should all be more ourselves and worry less about what we think people want from us. Imagine how freeing that would be.
